Perceived Truth vs. Actual Truth
Tip #24: Realize that all successful marketing is about "perceived truth," rather than "actual truth." As humans, we make hasty decisions about reality in order to feel things are in order. We simplify to make ourselves comfortable and our surroundings predictable.
For instance, what if you went into a restaurant, and 15 minutes after sitting down, you found a cockroach scurrying across the floor? If you are like most people, your brain would instantly make negative calculations about the restaurant, i.e., the food is contaminated, they are unclean, they don't care about the customer, etc...when all of this may not really be true! But PERCEPTION of reality rather than reality itself is king.
How does this apply to online marketing? In every way!
For example, what if I told you that I was an "Internet marketing consultant"? You would probably say, "Neat. YAWN." But if I told you that I was an "Internet Marketing Secrets Consultant who can help you cash in on the billion dollar online world," you would probably give me a little bit more of your ear. Do you see where I am going with this?
You must strive to affect people's perception of you and your business for the positive if you are to succeed in online marketing. A big secret, yet simple...use it wisely!
The Three Steps To Internet Riches
1) Find out what people want.
2) Find the niche market.
3) Give them what they want.
It is really this simple, however I will discuss each step in detail.
Tip #25: Find out if your product or service is in demand BEFORE your create it! In other words, find out what people want. Never create a product or service and THEN try to find who wants it. What is the point of creating a product/service that nobody wants?
Finding out what people want is the most important step for your business. The danger in not knowing what people want is that you may create something you feel is phenomenal, but it turns out that nobody really wants it. Not only will you have wasted your time and money, you will not have made any money either. Find out if your idea is in demand FIRST.
Tip #26: Target the "niche" market. This is absolutely essential. Defining your audience is what determines who makes money and who is wasting it in business. It would be foolish to market your dog vitamins to a crowd of people who don't own dogs. Ask yourself these questions:
1) Who would be interested in my product/service?
2) How can they be reached?
3) What kind of offer would I be looking for if I were one of my prospects?
Activity: You MUST sit down RIGHT NOW and think off all of the kinds of people online and offline who would be interested in purchasing your product. You will make more money from targeting a small group of people who are interested in your offer than trying to market to thousands of people who have little or no desire for your product or service. Think of interested, targeted people right now.
Tip #27: Once you are done figuring out what your primary market is, you must search for any secondary markets. A secondary market is that niche that will earn you less than your primary, but nonetheless is a great target. For instance, if you sell limousine service, a good primary market would be weddings and funerals. A secondary market could be (I could be totally off) high school proms, since many high school kids utilize limousines for the dazzle of it all.
Subtip #1: Tailor your message to your audience. If your audience is going to be a group of highly intellectual book readers, then a good command of vocabulary might be necessary.
If, however, you are speaking to teenagers or college graduates, your vocabulary does not have to be Shakespearean, but your message MUST be clear and easy to understand. Keep a mental note that most people who go online have an 8th grade reading comprehension level.
Tip #28: Give the people what they want. It is not that hard to create a product that is in demand---especially information. If they want a book that discusses the dancing ritual of a chimpanzee, do your research and supply a pamphlet or booklet on the subject. The only real investment is time. Some projects take months to produce and others only hours.
Those are the 3 steps to internet riches, although technically, there should really be four, and that fourth one would be.
Tip #29: Collect! You have created your service, product or information and dedicated a large portion of your life to it. Not only is it quality, but you deserve to BE PAID for it. Always remember that you are in the business world to serve...and make loads of money.
